Active Directory Integration with Microsoft Office Project Server 2003

Active Directory Integration with Microsoft Office Project Server 2003 - www.techrefer.blogspot.com

Active Directory® service plays many roles, from being the backbone of distributed security to being the central repository for information for your entire infrastructure. It vastly simplifies user and computer management and provides superior access to networked resources.

When used with Project Server 2003, Active Directory provides a central service for administrators to organize enterprise resources and Project Server users. Organizations in a position to take advantage of Active Directory can greatly simplify the security and resource management aspects of Project Server.

The Active Directory connector in Project Server facilitates synchronization of users and groups from Active Directory to Project Server. A new feature of Project Server is the ability to synchronize security groups, distribution groups, and organization units in Active Directory with security groups in Project Server. In addition, the enterprise resource pool in Project Server can be populated based on the users who belong to a mapped group in Active Directory.

The result is that you save administrative and hardware costs.

Advantages of using Active Directory

Managing user accounts is a great burden because all of the requisite information is rarely in one place, at the right time. Active Directory solves this so you can realize some time-saving benefits:

• When a new person is hired by an organization, he or she will be added automatically to the enterprise resource pool instead of having to be added manually. This alone can save you many hours of managing new users and searching for new people to add to projects.

• When a person leaves the organization, he or she is deactivated automatically within Project Server.

Deactivating a user does not delete the user from the Project Server database. A record of that user’s work on project tasks, including any actual work hours, is retained after deactivation.

If a person’s name changes or any other key attributes about the person change, this change will automatically occur within Project Server and will appear in any other projects to which the person is assigned.

Fast way of publish information

RSS - www.techrefer.blogspot.com

Latest features in technologies brings many advantages to reach information to the desired location at very high speed. RSS is the way to publish information and updates.

This post will brief you about RSS.

1. RSS is a way to publish information through feeds and readers.

2. Really Simple Syndication (RSS) feeds, leveraging SQL data, and XML-based web services. RSS (also known as Rich Site Summary) feeds use XML to publish content that is frequently updated. Users can subscribe to an RSS feed using an RSS reader and receive regular updates of certain information at an interval each user defines. Microsoft SQL Server 2005, as well as SQL Server 2000, has the capability to output results in an XML format. This is accomplished by simply adding the two words FOR XML to the end of an SQL query.

3. RSS is an information formatting scheme used primarily for syndicating (sharing) news, electronic magazines (e-zines), and personal weblogs (blogs). However, any information that can be structured into an XML-style format can be syndicated using an RSS feed and read using a news aggregator. A news aggregator is any program that is RSS-compatible, including most web browsers.

Use your flash drive as RAM with Windows ReadyBoost

Use your flash drive as RAM with Windows ReadyBoost - www.techrefer.blogspot.com

Microsoft Widows has introduced a feature called ReadyBoost in its operating system Vista to user flash drive (pen drives) as RAM.

With the help of this technology one can use any Flash drive, SD Cards, CF Cards as the third memory option for the computer.

This post will tell you how to enable this feature to your pc to improve performance.

Till this date, Microsoft’s windows had two options for the memory requirement of the computer, so that the computing can be done at cheaper rates and that too without installing the physical memory.

1. Physical Memory (RAM)
2. Page File (A virtual memory file, stored on hard disk).

The page file is used by the Windows OS to cater the needs of various applications when the physical memory is fully used up. The reason for that is, that Virtual memory is slower as compared to the physical memory and thus Phyical memory takes the first priority.

Now, the benefits of USB Flash Drive or Cards as a source of Memory :

1. It is faster than the virtual memory which is accessed through the hard disk drive.
2. It is cheaper as compared to the actually Physical Memory.

How can it be activated ?

In order to activate the ReadyBoost technology on your flash drive or Memory Cards, you have to follow these steps…

1. Open My Computer.
2. Right Click on the Removable Disk Drive and select Properties.
3. Click on ReadyBoost Tab.
4. Enable the feature by selecting the option and allocate the amount of space you want to use as memory.

Use your flash drive as RAM with Windows ReadyBoost - www.techrefer.blogspot.com

NOTE:

1. Regardless of the fact that you use Readyboost or not, you need at least 512 Mb of memory to run Windows Vista decently.

2. If your device is not giving the option of ReadyBoost then it means that it doesn’t clear up the minimum data transfer rate required by ReadyBoost technology.

Microsoft SharePoint 2007 & Benefits

Sharepoint 2007 - www.techrefer.blogspot.com

Content is the key for the success of any organization. That may be any thing, should be shared and collaborative with all processing units with right phase in an organization. Automation and computerization with rapid application platforms gives more accuracy and reliability in organizational growth.

Microsoft products are mostly user-friendly and easy to use tools for office and process automation system. SharePoint server is a wonderful product of Microsoft to meet all kind of these challenges.

Let this article give you brief knowledge about SharePoint Server 2007.

SharePoint Services is a versatile technology that enables organizations and businesses of all sizes to increase the efficiency of their processes and improve team productivity. With tools for collaboration that help people stay connected across organizational and geographic boundaries, Windows SharePoint Services gives people access to the documents and information they need.

SharePoint Services also gives organizations a platform for building Web-based business applications that can scale easily to meet the changing and growing needs of our business.

SharePoint Server 2007 is built upon Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, which is based upon ASP.NET 2.0. As a result, you can also use functionality such as master pages, authentication providers, and navigation providers in SharePoint Server.

SharePoint 2007 Top 10 Benefits (click here to view details)

1) Provide a simple, familiar, and consistent user experience.

Office SharePoint Server 2007 is tightly integrated with familiar client desktop applications, e-mail, and Web browsers to provide a consistent user experience that simplifies how people interact with content, processes, and business data. This tight integration, coupled with robust out-of-the-box functionality, helps you employ services themselves and facilitates product adoption.

2) Boost employee productivity by simplifying everyday business activities.

Take advantage of out-of-the-box workflows for initiating, tracking, and reporting common business activities such as document review and approval, issue tracking, and signature collection. You can complete these activities without any coding. Tight integration with familiar client applications, e-mail, and Web browsers provide you with a simple, consistent experience. Modifying and extending these out-of-the-box workflow processes is made easy through tools like Microsoft Office SharePoint Designer 2007

3) Help meet regulatory requirements through comprehensive control over content.

By specifying security settings, storage policies, auditing policies, and expiration actions for business records in accordance with compliance regulations, you can help ensure your sensitive business information can be controlled and managed effectively. And you can reduce litigation risk for your organization. Tight integration of Office SharePoint Server 2007 with familiar desktop applications means that policy settings are rendered onto client applications in the Microsoft Office system, making it simpler for employees to be aware of and comply with regulatory requirements.

4) Effectively manage and repurpose content to gain increased business value.

Business users and content authors can create and submit content for approval and scheduled deployment to intranet or Internet sites. Managing multilingual content is simplified through new document library templates that are specifically designed to maintain a relationship between the original version and different translations of a document.

5) Simplify organization-wide access to both structured and unstructured information across disparate systems.

Give your users access to business data found in common line-of-business systems like SAP and Siebel through Office SharePoint Server 2007. Users can also create personalized views and interactions with business systems through a browser by dragging configurable back-end connections. Enterprise-wide Managed Document Repositories help your organizations store and organize business documents in one central location.

6) Connect people with information and expertise.

Enterprise Search in Office SharePoint Server 2007 incorporates business data along with information about documents, people, and Web pages to produce comprehensive, relevant results. Features like duplicate collapsing, spelling correction, and alerts improve the relevance of the results, so you can easily find what you need.

7) Accelerate shared business processes across organizational boundaries.

Without coding any custom applications, you can use smart, electronic forms–driven solutions to collect critical business information from customers, partners, and suppliers through a Web browser. Built-in data validation rules help you gather accurate and consistent data that can be directly integrated into back-end systems to avoid redundancy and errors that result from manual data re-entry.

8) Share business data without divulging sensitive information.

Give your employees access to real-time, interactive Microsoft Office Excel spreadsheets from a Web browser through Excel Services running on Office SharePoint Server 2007. Use these spreadsheets to maintain and efficiently share one central and up-to-date version while helping to protect any proprietary information embedded in the documents (such as financial models).

9) Enable people to make better-informed decisions by presenting business-critical information in one central location.

Office SharePoint Server 2007 makes it easy to create live, interactive business intelligence (BI) portals that assemble and display business-critical information from disparate sources, using integrated BI capabilities such as dashboards, Web Parts, scorecards, key performance indicators (KPIs), and business data connectivity technologies. Centralized Report Center sites give users a single place for locating the latest reports, spreadsheets, or KPIs.

10) Provide a single, integrated platform to manage intranet, extranet, and Internet applications across the enterprise.

Office SharePoint Server 2007 is built on an open, scalable architecture, with support for Web services and interoperability standards including XML and Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP). The server has rich, open application programming interfaces (APIs) and event handlers for lists and documents. These features provide integration with existing systems and the flexibility to incorporate new non-Microsoft IT investments

These solutions can help you meet your business needs for information sharing and collaboration, both within your company and with the outside world. If your company has ever thought about creating a commerce-enabled web site, an intranet or extranet to foster effective communication between employees, departments or partners, or a portal for a number of combined services.

12 Expert Google Search Tips

Search Tips - www.techrefer.blogspot.com

The most difficult phase in searching is getting the exact website link from the most popular search engines like Google. Every one will search and at one instance they will get the required links but some times it may take lot of time to get the exact information.

Fastness in searching could be possible by using some tips while searching through search engines. This article will help you to overcome the delay in searching exact required information from Google.

12 Expert Google Search Tips

1. Explicit Phrase:

Lets say you are looking for content about internet marketing. Instead of just typing internet marketing into the Google search box, you will likely be better off searching explicitly for the phrase. To do this, simply enclose the search phrase within double quotes.

Example: "internet marketing"

2. Exclude Words:

Lets say you want to search for content about internet marketing, but you want to exclude any results that contain the term advertising. To do this, simply use the "-" sign in front of the word you want to exclude.

Example Search: internet marketing -advertising

3. Site Specific Search:

Often, you want to search a specific website for content that matches a certain phrase. Even if the site doesn’t support a built-in search feature, you can use Google to search the site for your term. Simply use the "site:somesite.com" modifier.

Example: "internet marketing" site:www.smallbusinesshub.com

4. Similar Words and Synonyms:

Let’s say you are want to include a word in your search, but want to include results that contain similar words or synonyms. To do this, use the "~" in front of the word.

Example: "internet marketing" ~professional

5. Specific Document Types:

If you’re looking to find results that are of a specific type, you can use the modifier "filetype:". For example, you might want to find only PowerPoint presentations related to internet marketing.

Example: "internet marketing" filetype:ppt

6. This OR That:

By default, when you do a search, Google will include all the terms specified in the search. If you are looking for any one of one or more terms to match, then you can use the OR operator. (Note: The OR has to be capitalized).

Example: internet marketing OR advertising

7. Phone Listing:

Let’s say someone calls you on your mobile number and you don’t know how it is. If all you have is a phone number, you can look it up on Google using the phonebook feature.

Example: phonebook:617-555-1212 (note: the provided number does not work – you’ll have to use a real number to get any results).

8. Area Code Lookup:

If all you need to do is to look-up the area code for a phone number, just enter the 3-digit area code and Google will tell you where it’s from.

Example: 617

9. Numeric Ranges:

This is a rarely used, but highly useful tip. Let’s say you want to find results that contain any of a range of numbers. You can do this by using the X..Y modifier (in case this is hard to read, what’s between the X and Y are two periods. This type of search is useful for years (as shown below), prices or anywhere where you want to provide a series of numbers.

Example: president 1940..1950

10. Stock (Ticker Symbol):

Just enter a valid ticker symbol as your search term and Google will give you the current financials and a quick thumb-nail chart for the stock.

Example: GOOG

11. Calculator:

The next time you need to do a quick calculation, instead of bringing up the Calculator applet, you can just type your expression in to Google.

Example: 48512 * 1.02

12. Word Definitions:

If you need to quickly look up the definition of a word or phrase, simply use the "define:" command.

Example: define:plethora

Hope this list of Google search tips proves useful in your future Google searches.

Download Correct Drivers for Unknown Devices

Our PCs are the group of various components called devices, like motherboard, video, audio, LAN etc., for every device we need separate drivers software to make coordination between devices for proper functionality.

Some times its very hard to find device drivers for unknown devices installed in our PCs, Here this post explained how to find device and relevant drivers software information.

Most of the computer hardware's comes along with their respective device drivers in a disc.If your driver CD gets lost or corrupted, then you can always download the necessary drivers from the manufacturer's website or restore the drivers from the backup if you have created earlier.

But if you do not have a backup and is unsure about the manufacture of the device or your device model, then you will not be able to search the device driver online and windows will be showing errors like “Unkown device Found” or “Device not identified” in your system tray. Here is an excellent trick to find out the correct drivers for the unknown devices in your device manager.

How to Download Drivers for Unknown Devices

1) Find the Vendor and Device ID of the unknown device. To do this,

Open Device Manager

(In windows XP :Start>Control panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager)
(In Windows Vista:Start>Control Panel>Device Manager)

In Device manager, take the properties of unknown device
In Properties, click on Details tab and select Device Instance Id from the drop box.

You will see a code like this
HDAUDIO\FUNC_02&VEN_14F1&DEV_2C06&SUBSYS_104D1700&REV_1000
Here 14F1 is the Vendor ID
and 2C06 is the Device ID

2)After obtaining both device and vendor ID,go to http://pcidatabase.com and search with your vendor ID or device ID to find the driver of the unknown device.

After finding your device model and manufacturer, you can either go to the manufactures website and download the necessary drivers or you can get them from these websites.
